Can you think of a time when vintage art hasn't been trendy?  From the civil war images, to vintage alcohol advertisements, to printed cliche's, vintage is here to stay.  Our latest collection, Vintage Botanicals, was curated with your sophistacted vintage style in mind.

Images of florals and botanicals are always in season, no matter where you live on the globe, vintage botanicals are appropriate decor all year round.   If your taste is more of the contemporary modern kind, than try printing your favorite floral images on aluminum, as shown above. If you're more of a country cottage type, maybe print an image or two onto birchwood, giving your florals a nature look.  This a vintage botanical from Gallery Direct, that was featured on French County Cottage.  Blogger Courtney printed these vintage flowers on birchwood.  They look absolutely stunning resting on her fireplace! Canvas gallery wraps are perfect for the traditional look, try adding a frame if you'd like to dress the image up a bit.  The customization is endless with Gallery Direct. Do you have a Vintage Botanical image in your home?  Tell us about it!
For some reason people seem genuinely afraid to get art printed on anything other than canvas. They know canvas and so it is a safe choice, but is it the best choice? Gallery Direct offers some amazing out of the box options for your art that truly bring your pieces to life in new and amazing ways. My favorite pieces in my home, and the ones that get the most attention, are not on canvas they are on aluminum and acrylic and mirror. Canvas is beautiful and a great option but take a look at how your art can really pop when you try a new media! Aluminum: Aluminum has the ability to make water sparkle and lights glitter in a way canvas can not, check out this example at Go Graham Go and this one at Thrifty & Chic Mom. Acrylic: Acrylic is a great option for a kitchen or eating area as it is easy to clean, check out this great acrylic at Better in Bulk as well as this acrylic piece. Birchwood: Birchwood gives your art great texture and a more earthy feel. Check out these great birchwood pieces at The Mom Reviews and Stuff Parents Need. Mirror: Art on mirror is a great way to elevate a room and add more elegance as well as more light. Here are some great examples of art on mirror at My Four Monkeys and Thrifty & Chic Mom. Check out all of these great examples and then consider ordering your art on something other than canvas.

So if you are having trouble coming up with interior color schemes for you home, you surely can get some inspiration from Design Seeds. And here is the thing, don't just stop at painting your walls these colors use the color palettes to help you find art! If you don't already know, you can search and browse through our art per color palette. Here are some examples of Design Seeds palettes I choose to inspire me in finding some Gallery Direct art...
Today is the last day to save big on our Memorial Day sale. For most of us Memorial Day kicks off summer, so why not pick up a summery image or two from Gallery Direct.  The two images featured in our banner would give any room a breezy feel. I can almost smell the banana boat sunscreen now.

I am very excited about introducing our next new artist, Wyn Bielaska. I have the same passion about architecture, art and graphic design that he does. Wyn is an architect that has worked on a wide range of projects in the United States, Canada, China, Europe, and the Middle East. He has also been teaching option studios in the Masters Program at the Faculty of Architecture (now called the Faculty of the Built Environment), University of Washington, since 2002. Being a former Architecture and Graphic Design major in college, I was so happy to see Wyn's art roll in to Gallery Direct. You can see his background in his art, it has an architectural flair & structure and it also has a graphic design edge to it. Last month we released his "Ship Hulls" series. Here are some of my favorites: 21 Again II Noguchi Lost

PANTONE recently declared Tangerine Tango as the 2012 Color of the Year. If you don’t know what PANTONE is, that’s okay. Allow me to explain. PANTONE is a company best known for its matching system (PMS), which is a color-standardization guide primarily used in the printing industry. They provide PANTONE Guides that look a lot like the paint sample strips you get at a home improvement store, and it essentially works the same way. For example, if a company uses PANTONE 19-1664, or True Red, in its logo, they can rest assured that no matter how many different printers are used to print it, the red will stay true to its form. Make sense? Every year PANTONE chooses a color of the year. The color is based on trends seen in fashion and interior design, as well as the general spirit of the times. According to PANTONE, Tangerine Tango provides the “energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.” I know you’re wondering, “Why should I care?” Well, you should care because it means that Tangerine Tango is the new "it" color. It can be seen in the spring lines of many notable fashion designers including Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, Cynthia Steffe by Shaun Kearney, Elie Tahari, and Adrienne Vittadini. And it’s popping up in accessories, pillows, and fabrics all over the place. Incorporating Tangerine Tango in the art you choose for your home is the easiest way to modernize and energize your space. I’ve even taken the liberty of compiling a few of my favorite paintings with this color: [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="237" caption="Divulge I by Sylvia Angeli"]Divulge I by Sylvia Angeli[/caption] [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Wall Flower I by Sara Abbott"][/caption] [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="267" caption="Pyracantha by Stella Alesi"]Pyracantha by Stella Alesi[/caption] You can see all of our art with varying shades of orange by clicking here. Your walls will thank you.

The bathroom is often one of the most visited rooms in the house. The holidays always remind me to pay extra attention to my powder rooms as they can make or break a visitors experience. I also find that re-decorating my bathrooms makes me feel like I refreshed my living space. Mirrors and bathrooms make sense.  Why not pick an image and print in on a mirror? This is a great way to add a creative touch to a bathroom. How contemporary and cool does the mirror to your right look? This would look beautiful above a bath tub or behind the toilet. Think that is too much? Than go for a calmer image like a seashell or foot prints in the sand. You can search through thousands of images in the Gallery Direct Image Vault. Obviously this is wall art decor, it's not for the main mirrors in the powder room. You could pick interesting shapes and frames for the standard mirrors if you want to add some spice to the functional mirrors. The hallways and stair cases are not the only places to place family photos. Go ahead and post some of your favorite family moments in the powder room.  You can always rotate the images from around your house. Move some from the hallway into the powder room. Themes are great. I like to put the memories from the past seasons in the bathrooms. I have last years New Years photos that I plan to put up around Christmas and then some beach images in the summer. If your bathroom is off of the living room or a bedroom, it's nice to incorporate that decor and colors into the bathroom. Keeping the wall decor consistent throughout the transition from the bigger room to the powder room makes your home flow nicely.  If your living room has bold abstract images, go ahead and place a large bold abstract in the bathroom and keep the shower curtain or towels in a solid complimentary color. I like to add a touch of uniqueness to my powder room images by printing on aluminum. Aluminum will give any image a shine with a contemporary edge. Have a bathroom decor tip? Please share it with us by leaving a comment.
