I am very excited about introducing our next new artist, Wyn Bielaska. I have the same passion about architecture, art and graphic design that he does. Wyn is an architect that has worked on a wide range of projects in the United States, Canada, China, Europe, and the Middle East. He has also been teaching option studios in the Masters Program at the Faculty of Architecture (now called the Faculty of the Built Environment), University of Washington, since 2002. Being a former Architecture and Graphic Design major in college, I was so happy to see Wyn's art roll in to Gallery Direct. You can see his background in his art, it has an architectural flair & structure and it also has a graphic design edge to it. Last month we released his "Ship Hulls" series. Here are some of my favorites: 21 Again II Noguchi Lost
When it comes to Mother's Day and photo gifts people immediately think of mom and her kids or grand-kids. While that is a great idea you can only do that so many years, this year try some of these unique photo ideas and put them on canvas with the $49 photo upload deal going on right now! * Put your Mother's wedding photo on canvas. Unlike today when our parents where married putting your photos on canvas was not an option so surprise her by doing it now * Put a picture of your mother's parents or siblings on canvas. My mom is one of 8 and has a photo of all of them together when they are young, she would love that put on canvas for her. * Put a generational photo on canvas. I have a photo with 4 generations of women in it, how special would that be on canvas. * Put the family namesake on canvas. Is your mom named after a family member? Put that person on canvas. * Put a photo collage of your mom as child on canvas. Help preserve special family photos for generations to come by putting them on canvas. I have always loved mirrors as decor, so often people only look to mirrors as a way to check there appearance but decorating with mirrors can really bring a room to life. There are so many benefits to decorating with mirrors including:
  • Mirrors make a room appear larger. When strategically placed you can create the illusion of a bigger space. I love mirrors above fire places, at the ends of hallways or top and bottom of stairs.
  • Mirrors make a room brighter. Add a mirror to a small dark room and suddenly the lights are brighter and the sunshine stronger.
  • Mirrors are great for casual or formal spaces. If you have trouble setting the tone in a room a mirror is a great choice simply pick a frame that fits the room style and then add your art or leave blank.
Gallery Direct offers art and photos on mirror with several framing options, it is a surprisingly elegant and fun way to display art in your home be sure to check out this great decor option. You can find Ellen blogging daily at Thrifty & Chic Mom.

Spring is my favorite time of year - for decorating my home and myself.  I view my artwork in my home like I view my choice of clothing -- they are both a reflection of who I am.  So being in style is important to me.  Spring usually brings out the boldest colors of the year, and 2012 has BRIGHT colors, and I absolutly love all of them. From neons to soft pastels this spring colors are HOT!

These ladies are sporting all the trends -- let's start from left to right.  As most of you know from Breanna's blog post, Tangerine is the IN color, so go ahead and get an entire outfit of Tangerine, look how fabulous this woman looks.

The next woman is sporting a shade of pantone color Cockatoo -- paired with Starfish accents giving her an airy yet elegent look.  These colors are sure to brighten any room making it feel more open and airy.  I just placed Beach Series III by Sara Abbott in my living room and I can almost feel the cool breeze sweeping through.

In the middle we have the bright yellow that has come full circle and returned to be one of the hottest colors again this spring.  Pair it with pantone Caberet (shoes) and you have a knock out look that is sure to turn every head.

This next outfit, really captures the essence of Spring 2012 with the mixture of Margarita Green and Sodalite Blue with the floral pattern.  If you are going to wear florals this spring, make sure they are bright and big, and the colors are in season and you could rock this look.

The last outfit is a nice sophisticated blend of the Cackatoo with a light shade of Tangerine - almost a coral color, which is definitely an in color.

Think BOLD, BRIGHT and BEAUTIFUL!

Color is powerful. It can cause reactions, sway opinions, raise blood pressure, curb your appetite, and relax your mind, all in a split second.  Our response to color is subliminal, but very real. That’s why the colors you choose for your home are so important. Do you want your home to be calm and soothing, or bright and energetic? Or, do you want to combine several hues to create a more balanced feel? You might be thinking that a major color overhaul to your home is too expensive or too much of a commitment, but it doesn’t have to be. Changing out the art on your walls is an easy and affordable way to experiment with the color and mood of your home. There has been a lot of research on the psychology of color, and the following has been found to be true. Black Black is elegant and timeless. When combined with other colors, it adds contrast and helps ground the space. Artwork: Floret Purple III by Sia Aryai   White White symbolizes cleanliness and purity, and goes well with just about any color. It reflects light, so it can make a small room appear big and bright. Artwork: City Bird by Judy Paul   Red Red is a bold and powerful color that demands attention. It's a passionate color that represents love as well as anger. People often experience elevated heart rate and increased enthusiasm in red rooms. Used as an accent, red will immediately draw the eye to that particular element. Artwork: Grid Formation I by Christine Wilkinson Blue Blue is one of the most popular colors, and appeals equally to both men and women. It's often used in bedrooms because of its peaceful and calming properties. It is also said to increase productivity and creativity, making it an excellent color for an office environment. Blue is also known to suppress the appetite, since there are very few blue foods found in nature. Artwork: Equis I by St. John Green Green is the color of renewal, balance, and nature. Like blue, it's a calming color and makes time seem to go by faster. Television studios have “green rooms” to help guests relax before going on the air. Artwork: Zen Garden I by Sia Aryai Yellow Yellow is bright, perky, and cheerful, but it can also evoke anger. Used in abundance, yellow can be overpowering, as it is the most difficult color for the eye to process. Still, it's considered a happy color of optimism and hope. The addition of yellow in a room can add the feeling of sunshine, even if there isn’t any. Artwork: Harmonia IV by Sia Aryai Purple Purple is the color of royalty and mystery. It possesses the energy of red and the calming effects of blue. Used in a room, it can stimulate creativity. Darker versions of the color evoke moodiness and wealth. Artwork: Natural Expression I by Sara Abbott Brown Brown is typically a favorite of men as it is associated with earth, wood, and natural materials.  Shades of brown, including tans, make an excellent backdrop to allow other colors to pop. In a room brown can evoke warmth, dependability, honesty, and friendliness. Artwork: Hidden Meanings XIV by Caroline Ashton
As cheesy as it sounds, I believe in that quote, "Home is where your heart is."  Your home expresses your love for life, your family and passions. The more love you fill your home with, the more you feel at home.  My home is filled with artwork, images of my dog printed on canvas, my six nieces and nephews smiles in frames greet me every morning, landscape scenery throughout the hallways that remind me of growing up on the beaches of San Diego. My home represents what love is to me and what I love. As a blessed employee of Gallery Direct, I am able to love my home and workplace through artwork, and I want all of you to do the same. This is why we are giving away three $500 shopping sprees to Gallery Direct for Valentine's Day.  We want you to love your home.  Enter on our Facebook Page, winners will be announced on Feb. 15

One of my most favorite college courses while studying art was Art History. It helped of course that I had a professor who was so passionate about our world's greatest artists and masterpieces. I recall taking notebooks full of handwritten notes on these artists, and making flashcards of each painting and sculpture with all the known facts about them. I've been fortunate to see some of the masterpieces in person at the Louvre in Paris, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Here is a top 10 list of the world's greatest painters and sculptor compiled by Neil Collins MA LLB. #10 Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) #9 Jan Van Eyck (1390-1441) #8 Auguste Rodin (1840-1917) #7 Claude Monet (1840-1926) #6 Donatello (1386-1466) #5 JMW Turner (1775-1851) #4 Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519) #3 Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) #2 Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-69) #1 Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564) Did you know that Gallery Direct offers some of these amazing and beautiful masterpieces such as from Claude Monet? You can also search our Photo Vault for stock images from all of these artists or photographs of their works. We also have a Classic Art section where you can find masterpieces by many famous artists such as Klimt, Van Gogh, Degas and others. Even though they did not make it on this top 10 list, they certainly made their mark on history in the world of art. Since these artists are so famous it's a given that current artists will give us a new rendition (maybe with a modern twist) on some old masterpieces. Here's an example from one of our exclusive artists Randy Slack. Want a masterpiece hanging on a wall in your home or office, get it from Gallery Direct. We can print it for you on canvas to closely resemble the original masterpiece, or give it a modern look and print it on acrylic, birchwood or aluminum like this blogger did with Van Gogh's Starry Night.

Yesterday we launched artwork from Andreas Langley, our newest member of the New Era - Gallery Direct family. His art is very unique as it is of something we've never seen! He explores the mystery and wonder of ancient crystals revealing to us layers never seen before. Andreas has "an inherent and spontaneous drive for spirituality and a passion for metaphysics". Andreas grew up in both Europe and the United States but now resides in Arizona. He has a background in broadcast television and film. But lucky for us he explores in the visual arts by revealing the micro cosmos of mineral consciousness expressed in crystalline form of quartz. Above are 2 companion pieces, Record Keeper and Gateway Mystical. Andreas describes them as follows... Energies take shape in other worldly Gnome formations and entice with warm Salamander glow... A gateway offering to a forgotten Land of Dreams. In this series of 3, Spirit Timberland, Andreas describes them as follows...  The Nature Spirit of Forest and Trees expressing its range of energies in its mystical workings. This is an exciting week, we get to launch artwork from a new artist that has joined our New Era family! We are introducing Stella Alesi, who resides in Austin, Texas and has a very distinct style of painting. My coworkers and I, who have been color correcting the digital files from the scans of Stella's original artwork here in the Imaging Department, have noticed her interesting painting style. Her oil paintings have a very soft and subtle texture to them, yet they are bright and alive with color.  The botanicals Stella paints are very realistic imagery. Stella already has several different series of artwork. One of them being her Vanitas series. In the arts, vanitas is a type of symbolic work of art especially associated with Northern European still life painting in Flanders and the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th centuries, though also common in other places and periods. I just love how realistic Stella painted these companion pieces, Backyard Plums I&II. She was even able to capture the dusty-white coating that gives them a glaucous appearance. Another series Stella paints is her Mandalas series. Maṇḍala (मण्डल) is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". In the Buddhist and Hindu religious traditions their sacred art often takes a mandala form. The basic form of most Hindu and Buddhist mandalas is a square with four gates containing a circle with a center point. This piece, Intuition Intenetion, is the first of this series that New Era has launched. Lastly Stella also has a collage series. I find these companion pieces, September 11th I&II, very interesting. The older photographs really draw your interest in on the meaning behind the pieces. The colors, texture and pattern to the collages also make for great focal points. So take a look around on Gallery Direct of all of Stella Alesi's new art we are offering, you're sure to not be disappointed!
