Austin is still recovering from Formula One and what a blast this city was during the Inaugural Circuit of Americas US Grand Prix on November 16 – 18.  The city of Austin estimated that the brand new race track drew in 300,000 fans, and boy was the city buzzing.  From the red carpets to the race track Gallery Direct created some really cool artwork for the events.  Check it out: These are 4 feet by 9 feet prints on canvas, that we custom made for the Circuit of The Americas Opening party at the Frank Erwin Center.  They asked us to put a spin on the tradition “Step and Repeat” for the red carpet and this is what we came up with. Pretty cool huh?  Aerosmith rocked the house while the VIP’s hung out in these luxury suites. The New Era Suite out at the race track looked fast and furious with this formula one car printed on aluminum, the view wasn’t bad either. Were you at formula?  Tell us about it!!
Meet Gallery Direct Style Ambassador Felicia whom you can find blogging at Go Graham Go. As a mom to two busy little boys she still finds time to do some great decorating with her Gallery Direct art. Her picture of her favorite vacation spot on aluminum first sparked my love for this incredible media, the water seems to literally sparkle. The pictures do not do it justice!

I also love the creative way Felicia used vintage art for her little boys room. It looks perfect now and yet it will still look perfect when he is a teen. She chose a great framed canvas airplane and a fabulous vintage car on gallery wrapped canvas, they both turned out great. For more great decorating ideas as well as other great tips and information be sure to check out Felicia's blog Go Graham Go.

We are very excited to have begun working on several big production videos for Gallery Direct.  We partnered with the amazing film crew, ImageWork Communications out of Los Angeles.  ImageWorkCom is well known for working with Nascar, West Coast Choppers and Hewlett Packard. Without giving too much away, below is a sneak peak at the production of our first video.  Think of this one as a 60 second commercial, we've been referring to it as our "sizzle" video. This is a scene of a young ballerina practicing and then coming home to her mother.  Her bedroom has an aspiration image adorning the wall, this image is Ballet Dancer in Blue by Edgar Degas.  The man in there coaching her is John Lawrence the owner and director of ImageWork, he was amazing with our tiny dancer, she was all smiles around him.

Next up was an even tinier actress, named Babes.  Babes is a Maltese and quite a ham in-front of the camera. She represents all the dog lovers that print their pet photos with Gallery Direct.  She brought her owner with her to be on camera.

Stay tuned for more behind the scene photos from our production videos!

The gals and I in the Imaging Department were talking the other morning on which category wins for the most user uploads to get printed here at Gallery Direct. It was between these 3: wedding, pets & children portraits. In the Imaging Department we like to give our user uploaded photos a little clean up and boost if they need it. After all it will be hanging in your home so it has to look it's absolute best! Unfortunately,  we do receive many user upload photos that are fuzzy & out of focus, or are dark or have major flash shadows. And there's not much we, the Imaging Department, can do for those problems. So here are some photo tips that I've found useful when taking photos of my own kids or dog! I also love to take pics at family & friends weddings. Go to them, Keep the eyes sharp, and Use natural light.  [caption id="attachment_2277" align="alignnone" width="720"] My dog, Penny Lane. Shot down at her level, focusing on her eyes and using natural light.[/caption] It's important for your kids & pets to feel comfortable. Get down to their level and go to them. Have you ever heard the saying, "eyes are the window to the soul"? Be sure to focus in on the eyes and keep them sharp. Photos using natural light always come out so much better! No flash burst or shadow from the flash. Experiment, Be Patient, and Schedule. [caption id="attachment_2278" align="alignnone" width="720"] My kids. Experimenting with different angles, patiently taking lots of photos and scheduled to do it a time of day I knew they wouldn't be grumpy.[/caption] Experiment with different angles, approaches and compositions. Be patient and just take A LOT of shots. Worry about the results later. It's always good to schedule a time to take portraits when your kids and pets are most energetic. Backdrop awareness and Non posed. [caption id="attachment_2279" align="alignnone" width="500"] I found this blue bonnet field a few miles from my home. Wouldn't it be a perfect backdrop for a wedding portrait!?[/caption] We've seen several times photos of the most adorable kids with maybe a pile of laundry or dirty dishes in the backdrop...or a wedding couple with other people or cars in the backdrop. Be aware of what is behind your subject, and if possible pick a beautiful backdrop out! We also see a lot of posed portraits and those are great, but sometimes I find the non posed ones to be most interesting. Like capturing a wedding couple, walking, talking and laughing. It really makes the photo more intimate.   I hope you found my tips useful. We love seeing the customer photo uploads that come through our Imaging Department, so keep uploading and ordering from Gallery Direct!

With SXSW going on in town there are a lot of celeb sightings...and we had one here at Gallery Direct. Billy Corgan, alternative rock musician best known as the sole permanent member of The Smashing Pumpkins, came to visit and tour Gallery Direct. How cool is that! It was all business though, the employees didn't line up for autographs or pictures (although some wanted to). And we welcomed Billy by putting up a wall mural of his album art and printing his stuff on aluminum, birch-wood, paper and canvas. Our CEO said it put a smile on his face.
