In the creative world we tend to follow trends and forecasts. Our Art Director also encourages all of our artists to keep up with the trends and color forecasts because he knows that's what will be hot and what will sell! Home Accents Today magazine came out with a great Color Forecast article. I love that Brighter Brights and Americana are what's "in" because here at Gallery Direct we have a ton to choose from in those categories! And it's so easy to find art in these colors because on our home page you can search for art by color... Some of my favorites that would fit into Brighter Brights... And Americana... So do you want to stay with the latest trends and forecasts at an affordable price...shop at Gallery Direct!
I hope y'all took advantage of our awesome sales to purchase a special print for your special mom for Mother's Day. Don't worry, if you didn't. You can redeem yourself...this Sunday when you gather together with family to celebrate the awesome mother you have, be sure to capture some "not your average family portraits". We all have those posed portraits, looking straight at the camera putting our best smile on our face...but I actually find portraits where the subjects aren't necessarily looking at the camera much more interesting. When you capture a "moment" you can truly capture the feeling of the moment. I'll show you what I mean... Aren't these awesome! They just exude so much joy, and as a mother myself I know any mother would love to have a picture like one of these to hang in her home. So get it done this Mother's Day. Capture that moment! And then once you do have it printed with us here at Gallery Direct. You'll be sure to WOW her.
I am very excited about introducing our next new artist, Wyn Bielaska. I have the same passion about architecture, art and graphic design that he does. Wyn is an architect that has worked on a wide range of projects in the United States, Canada, China, Europe, and the Middle East. He has also been teaching option studios in the Masters Program at the Faculty of Architecture (now called the Faculty of the Built Environment), University of Washington, since 2002. Being a former Architecture and Graphic Design major in college, I was so happy to see Wyn's art roll in to Gallery Direct. You can see his background in his art, it has an architectural flair & structure and it also has a graphic design edge to it. Last month we released his "Ship Hulls" series. Here are some of my favorites: 21 Again II Noguchi Lost
Are there any of you out there that love a good art theft movie like I do? I guess because of my background in art and my job, I always enjoy a great art theft movie like the Thomas Crown Affair... A wealthy, bored financier orchestrates an elaborate heist to steal a Monet painting valued at 100 million to cure his boredom. Incognito is another art theft movie... It's about a talented art forger who paints a fake Rembrandt that was lost supposedly off the coast of Spain over 350 years ago. Actually, art and cultural property crime is a looming criminal enterprise that has a 6 billion estimated losses annually. Our FBI actually has a special art crime team that's purpose is to recover these precious pieces. One of the top 10 art thefts on the FBI list was the Van Gogh Museum Robbery, a museum I visited in Amsterdam in 2000! I couldn't believe it! "In December 2002, two thieves used a ladder to climb to the roof and break in to the Vincent Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In just a few minutes the thieves stole two paintings: Van Gogh’s View of the Sea at Scheveningen and Congregation Leaving the Reformed Church in Nuenen, valued at $30 million. Dutch police convicted two men in December 2003, but did not recover the paintings." Stealing art is like stealing history. All these wealthy art owners own a piece of history, wouldn't we all love to. :) Well if you've browsed around Gallery Direct's Classic Art section you would find out that you could own a very affordable Giclée of a piece of history! So go ahead, stream a great art theft movie tonight and while you're watching that browse our art and order yourself a classic art piece!

With SXSW going on in town there are a lot of celeb sightings...and we had one here at Gallery Direct. Billy Corgan, alternative rock musician best known as the sole permanent member of The Smashing Pumpkins, came to visit and tour Gallery Direct. How cool is that! It was all business though, the employees didn't line up for autographs or pictures (although some wanted to). And we welcomed Billy by putting up a wall mural of his album art and printing his stuff on aluminum, birch-wood, paper and canvas. Our CEO said it put a smile on his face.
SXSW Interactive is finally here. It may be cold and rainy in our city but that won't stop us. For the Interactive conference we will be giving $1000 in free art away everyday until Tuesday. You can enter to win here: http://Www.gallerydirect.com/sxsw But If you see us at the festival, enter to win simply by scanning one of our amazing QR shirts.... and say Hey! We are friends. One of my most favorite paintings is "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt. I remember studying this piece in my Art History course in college. Did you know it is one of the top 10 most famous paintings in the world ever according to mostinterestingfacts.com? Gustav, the Vienna master, painted this in 1907. The painting depicts a couple surrounded by a gold blanket and ornaments sharing a moment of shear passion: the perfect kiss. Every time I look at it, it gives me many feelings and memories of times I've felt these feelings before. Figurative art seems to do that for me. I guess it's something about seeing the expression or position of someone as well as the perspective. In this case the facial expression of the woman being kissed. Did you know you can order a print of "The Kiss" at Gallery Direct? The customers who have purchased it have given it 5 stars. Here is what one said about it: "I was so excited when I received my Klimt. I chose it to go over my fireplace in my living room and it looks perfect there! It really makes a statement and sets the tone for the entire space, which is exactly what I was looking to accomplish. The construction of the canvas on a wood frame is so light weight it made it simple too hang and it looks like a real piece of art. I couldn't be happier!" Besides selling many of the famous paintings in our Vintage collection we also have lots of figurative art by our current exclusive artists. Some of my favorites are: Deep Contemplation by M. Drake. Classic Beauty V by St. John. And Red Wing by Tatara. So be sure to check them out and see if figurative art does the same to you as it does for me. Also I am going to give you a sneak peek of our upcoming new artist who paints beautiful figurative art. Her name is Katherine Fraser and her art will be launched on March 26th! Here is a sample of some of her art..
